Does it hurt to be friendly?
Are you afraid of those you don’t know?
Look into someone’s eyes…
I dare you…
and with a smile…
say “Hello.”
It can make all the difference.

Leroy, wonderful challenge here! I vote for this action completely. I find this rather easy to do; it is just that I need to stop fretting afterwards whether I smiled and spoke “appropriately”, or “socially acceptably” enough. I DO have problems with voice control ever since I was stabbed in the throat some years ago. Bless you for giving me continued courage to keep smiling and speaking here!
This is something we sometimes forget. Thanks for the reminder LeRoy!
A smile can make all the difference to someone. You never know how someone is feeling. A simple gesture such as this is enough..
God bless you.
Even if a smile is not appreciated. That says more about them than it does you.
Thanks for your post. It reminded me of this little poem that I have always loved.
There’s something you may give
A friend and stranger too;
It seems that when you give it,
It’s given back to you.
This gift is worth a million,
But doesn’t cost a dime;
It’s lasting in effect,
But doesn’t take much time.
This simple little gesture
Can make the day worthwhile
It’s just as good as sunshine –
It’s what we call a smile !

I work with the public all the time. With most people it actually does work when accompanied by a smile

Making a difference can be as simple as a smile . . .
LeRoy, I’ve been learning to reap the benefits of friendliness for some time now, but this poem put it in two syllable English for me, so to speak. At one time, I was indeed somewhat afraid of those I didn’t know. Through the persistence of God, those same people looked me in the eye and smiled, and I learned how important it is to show yourself friendly to people.
Now, I try to make my smile a constant feature because it can indeed make such a difference to someone else. As their responding smile can for me.
Thank you!

Where I’m from it would be considered rude not to acknowledge strangers, but after being deeply hurt by a stranger its hard for me to look strangers in the eye now. I can only do this by remembering that I represent Christ, Who loves them as much as me. I don’t want to become hardened because of pain. Thanks for this poem. It brought tears.
Hello, everyone!
Love this; when I’m feeling “Less-than” or just a little worn down, I find it always helps me to reach out to another .. inevitably I get so much more back just by smiling and being polite.
Cheers! MJ
Great advice, my friend.
I love this!!! It is so true–folks sometimes just don’t get how nice it is to acknowledge someone else !!!
