So, Jesus hung out with some pretty rough characters….did he change them? or did they change him?
And if we hang out with Our Lord, we are definitely in the very best possible company, are we not?
Like they say, “Birds of a feather flock together.” As always, I enjoyed your post. And also, as always, what you share resonates with me.
Yes, as sandpaper to smooth our rough edges, or iron sharpening iron, we are changed by those we interact with. All the more reason to spend a goodly amount of time with God and His Word.
I agree with Kathy’s comment.
As I get older I try to think more along the line of how my actions or words may be an influence on others and what affect I may have on them, which is a complete 180 from where I was when I was younger. Then, all I could see was how others’ actions and words had molded me – and I dwelt on that. Especially the negative.
Your quote from Ecclesiastes so fits this process of spiritual growth:.

I know my life experiences and who I’ve crossed paths with in life have shaped me into who I am now, good and bad.
