The Imagination of a Child

Kids can play in their imagination to the point that they can begin to believe they are the character. They are the cowboy, the Indian, the pirate, the princess, etc.

They create a world of fantasy, then live and function there for a moment. The imagination of a child is a magical “I can be anyone and do anything” world.

It would be grand if we, as Christians, could do the same. We could have great programs and do wonderful things for God. We could show everyone how loving and considerate we are. We could save the world for God. We could…

That’s a good place to stop. In a fantasy world, it works…in reality, it falls short. The reality is that we as Christians can do nothing of ourselves…on our best day… with our best intentions…with our best efforts…we can do nothing for God.

What we as Christians can do is listen to what God says to us.

I am the vine, ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me, and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing .

(John 15:5)

  1. Oh, Butch, how I pray to be forever entwined in that Living Vine!

  2. May be that is why Jesus challenges us (adults) to become like one of these …

  3. We live, move, and have our being in Him alone. And that is enough.

  4. Good to be reminded. Thanks for writing it.

  5. Excellent reminder, LeRoy. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, but apart from Him we can do nothing.

  6. Very true.

Thank you for your thoughts.
