Makes me wonder and shake my head,
How in the world it can be.
People can’t afford to pay their bills,
But, they got beer, cigarettes and satellite tv.
There are some things I just don’t get,
How in the world it can be.
People can’t seem to make ends meet,
But, they got beer, cigarettes and satellite tv.
I struggle to find any reason or rhyme,
How in the world it can be.
People can’t seem to get ahead,
But, they got beer, cigarettes and satellite tv.

I don’t drink or smoke but I do have satellite tv. However, if I were struggling financially I wouldn’t hesitate to cancel it. Thanks for saying what needs to be said.
I am always saying “But, they got beer, cigarettes and satellite tv” when people whine on about not being able to afford stuff for their kids or pay bills. So true!
So true Butch! I wonder the same things.
Amen, brother!
….and cell phones and X-boxes and fast-food meals!
Imagine how different the world would be without these three. Great post.
Priorities. Priorities explain what a person values. Or “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Sad truth.
Well done!
Funny but true! I have got to get my daughter who works in grocery stores to read this. She sees this every day and wonders too.
Prescient comment Butch. Some folks seem to have money enough for gambling, improper eating, and other bad habits, but not enough for what is good for their bodies and souls. Keep up the good comments.
Couldn’t agree more! Saw a show recently where people on benefits were complaining about not being able to make ends meet with all the budget cuts but I could see the large flat screen TV and sky digi box (which costs at least £40 a month) in the background – I’m afraid that I find it very difficult to have sympathy for people like that!
True words of wisdom, good friend! …words of wisdom. May we see the futility of our ways. Blessings.
