Self is Your Enemy

???

The apostle, Paul writes that we must die daily to self. That is the key, dying to self. Self is the old nature, self is incapable of living for God. Self is a “false god” and the biggest hindrance to the Christian walk. Self is your enemy.

Yet, everyday Christians try to live life with self at the helm. The buildings have man-created programs for everything from A-Z. Individual Christians pride themselves on their faithful attendance to these buildings. Records of attendance are kept and “pats on the backs” are given regularly. Offerings are tracked for tax purposes. There is even programs to make visitors feel welcome. That one sounds good, except you have to go there to “feel the love.” Man’s ideas are far from God’s decrees.

Has man become his own God? Isn’t God’s programs good enough? Can we as Christians be so vain as to think God needs our help?

Isn’t it time to die to self?

???

  1. An apt caution we all must consider. Is it possible to create an idol, name it jesus, and worship it? Good thoughts to chew on here friend. Blessings.

  2. Yes, and it always tries to get in the way!

  3. Yes, this is indeed an everyday battle for me … thanks for the reminder!

This echoes a burden that’s been on my heart about the ‘little yeast’ working through…and when that little yeast is worldiness and ‘self’ in churches…the results are scary. Thanks for this important exhortation and reminder, friend.

Thank you for your thoughts.
