Many, because of their faithful attendance to a building or a creed, consider themselves religious. They imagine themselves close to God.
The term is so often related spiritually that the basic meaning is seldom thought of.
Being religious is having a very devoted interest in something. An athlete is religious to training, a mother is religious to her children, a business man is religious to making a profit, an alcoholic is religious to drinking and so on.
Satan considers himself religious for he has a cause. He is religiously devoted to keeping as many as possible from taking Jesus seriously. He is religiously devoted to rendering ineffective as many believers as possible. He, too, is religious.
Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. (1 Peter 5:8 NLT)

And I keep hearing the words “faith-based”….what does that really mean to them? About the same as religious unfortunately. Good words Butch.
This is one of the biggest traps isn’t it? Faith becomes ritual, our spiritual life becomes merely religious. Good cautionary wisdom!
Dear Butch, thank you so much for this much-need caution to we Christians dealing with so many works of the Devil these days. I pray that I may be quiet and listen much more, thereby denying the Devil a tool of “chattiness” to use against me and the message of the love of Christ I wish to shine on all.
this is great I just shared it on the Prayer request page on Facebook.. I am Deborah Brooks Langford on Facebook..
Amen, brother.
My God! What a confirmation, what a blessing! I was just meditating on this very thought this morning! God is truly an awesome God and He brings laughter to my soul. Wonderful message Butch and God inspired!
Blessings to you and your lovely wife,
Rebecca
