Reflections

My Childhood Friend

I’m small of stature, my years are few,

A little boy yet to go to school,

With a very favorite thing to do.

I have a friend whose years are many.

He stands so tall with arms aplenty,

And in his shade I’m free to rest.

The place he lives is quiet today,

As he tells me stories from long ago.

He tells of ships, wooden and strong,

Treasures and pirates and battles long.

I learn of wagons with canvas tops,

And about the settler’s who walk beside.

Indian’s were their mortal foe,

That must have been many years ago.

Now, grown up, I come to see,

That very special friend to me;

In the forest standing tall,

I find the oak of long ago.

God Knows Your Heart

When your heart is aching and no words appear,

When life presents your greatest fear,

When the pain inside seems impossible to bear,

Remember, He knows your heart and He does care.

 ~

“For thou hast delivered my soul from death,

mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.”

(Psalm 116:8)

Want is Never Satisfied

Want is a small word with a big appetite. Wants can be for money, power, of the flesh, materialistic. Want is never satisfied. Want never has enough. Want can easily become your whole focus. Want and contentment cannot co-exist. You can choose to chase after “wants” or to live with contentment.

1 Timothy 6:8

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Hebrews 13:5

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

1John 2:16

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah

“My, oh my, what a wonderful day

Plenty of sunshine headin’ my way”*

~~~
It is easy to be thankful when the sun is shining and everything is going your way. It is easy to smile and sing with no storms in the forecast.
Zip-a-dee-do-dah…zip-a-dee-ay!*
What about those days and endless nights when nothing seems in your favor…when storm clouds obscure the sun and there is no song in your heart. How thankful do you feel…where is your zip-a-dee-do-dah* then?
Paul wrote* that he had learned to be content in whatever situation he was in. Whether the sun was shining or storms were brewing;; whether times were prosperous or the pockets were empty; whether he was bound or free; he was thankful…he was content.
This mindset may not make sense to the world, but to Christians it must. We follow One who had no home nor a pillow to rest His head. (Matthew 8:20) We are asked to let His thoughts* and His ways be ours.
If I may…therein lies our “zip-a-dee-do-dah”!*
