State of the Union

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

(2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV)

~ sexual deviance… drugs…drunkenness…coveting…lewd behavior…lovers of self…murder…rape…violence…corruption…social churches…idol worship…homeless…voting out God…dysfunctional government…like Sodom and Gomorrah.

You won’t hear this in any “tickle your ears” speech from Washington or many pulpits. They would rather “sugar coat” it for the sake of popularity. It is nothing short of hypocrisy to vote God out, then ask Him to bless this nation. The Word of God trumps everything!

Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah…(Genesis 19:24 NIV)

God cannot be segregated…you are either for Him or against Him. Be not deceived, God will not be mocked. Compare this nation to God’s word…compare your place of worship to God’s word…compare yourself to God’s word…therein is the truth.

  1. I am saddened at how many places shut God out. However, having Him on my heart is to me like sneaking Him in wherever I go that previously kicked Him out.

  2. So very true. We each need to look at our own character and determine if we are after God’s own heart. Just because some things have become prevalent does not mean we have His permission to do it. We will suffer the consequences of our choices. We need to pray for our leaders, but we need to pray for ourselves to have a heart like His.

  3. We get the government we deserve. The people chose Saul rather than a man after God’s own heart.

We were talking about this topic yesterday at dinner. Who is at fault….the government? The schools? or the breakdown of the families? We determined that it was both the breakdown of the families as well as the government encouraging or enabling poor behavior. The church’s role is to help the poor and the needy. We have institutionalized compassion and taken God out of the picture, just as you said. What a good article you wrote. Thank you.

  5. Loved this! This is such a powerful verse and a great reminder for us to be humble, pray, seek His face and turn from our sin. Be blessed today and bless someone else!

Thank you for your thoughts.
