Good Fences Make Good Neighbors

“Good fences make good neighbors” is a quote from Robert Frost. We have all been introduced to this saying somewhere in our schooling years. Most, like myself, probably never gave much thought to what Mr Frost meant.

Perhaps, the phrase, “Build bridges, not fences” sounds better. The thing is, depending upon the application, both sayings are appropriate. We try to instill in our children the fact of boundaries and limits. At times in life, there is only so far and so much you can do.

Many choose to learn; some don’t, even into adulthood. For the learners, we can build bridges; for those who choose not to learn, well, like the poet said, “Good fences make good neighbors.”

  2. I have met a very nice group of blogging neighbors who participate in the Good Fences meme on Thursdays, as a matter of fact, hosted by TexWisGirl. You can find her site here If you have a camera, snap a good fence and submit one on Thursdays.

  3. Bridges and fences are both needed in our lives. Good reminder – thanks!
