A Back Pocket God

The God of the Bible has become a “back pocket God” to many Christians. He is conveniently there when needed, right next to the credit cards. An all-powerful God has been reduced to “in case of emergency” or “if all else fails.” Credit cards are reached for before God is called upon. A faith in God’s provisions is professed as a credit card used to satisfy a want.

God asks us to trust Him…not our own abilities…not credit cards.

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? What shall we drink? How shall we be clothed? Your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:31-33)
