Everyone is prone to regret something in his or her life. Regrets are hard to live with and difficult to let go. They come from looking back at a moment and realizing a better outcome. Regrets are the “if only” or “should of” of a moment no longer subject to change. Those regrets were the best choice we knew at the time.
“If I knew then what I know now;” is a phrase often used. This and many other phrases and thoughts only give strength to regrets. What’s done is done. Even if you could change something in your past, think about how many other things would be affected by it; often, not to the good. There are reasons why things happen.
Regrets happen. No amount of guilt, worry or wishing can change anything. What’s done is done. Realize that you made the best choice at the moment. Though it may seem to you as a matter of regret now, it will and has found its way to work to the good. This idea can more be believed than explained. It takes faith.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28 NLT)
