Once Upon A Yesterday

A bridge not far away,

Relic from another day.

A place I used to play,

Once upon a yesterday.

Footprints in the dirt,

On a path from long ago.

Memories whisper in the trees,

From a place I used to know.

Meadows once in bloom,

Scattered by the winds of time.

Laughter lingers in the air,

Echoes of a childish rhyme.

The place where I grew up,

It seems so far away.

But close my eyes and I can see,

Once upon a yesterday.

  1. Good Morning Butch! I will be teaching an Adult Enrichment Class this fall at Millsaps College. I am asking permission to use this poem as a handout for the class. I will be using it as an example of several different ways to write our memories. Is this okay with you to use in my class? I will certainly have your information as the author and a link to your blog.

  2. I love to journey down memory lane to places of yesteryear. Nicely written, Butch, your words sent me on a wee trip.

Thank you for sharing, Butch. I go there often, Butch. I have vivid memories of playing in the sandbox my dad built in our back yard.

  4. Beautiful! I thought of my old home place while reading.

Thank you for your thoughts.
