devotions

Author Unknown

~~

A patient asks the hospice nurse…

“Have you been witness to any healing

of patients with cancer”

The nurse turns to the man and says…

“In hospice, working with patients

In the natural process of dying…

I have frequently witnessed something

Even more powerful than the curing of disease.

~~

In the final weeks of a patients life…

I saw the healing of sadness…

the healing of regrets from unmet dreams…

the healing of families too long apart…

The healing that comes from words…

That took a lifetime to say…and

The healing that only letting go brings,”

My Youth of Yesterday

Empty now…this bench we knew,

The time and place when we were young.

So long ago…those memories,

Of love and youth and having fun.

Wrinkled faces passing by,

Oh if they could see.

Warm summer days of long ago,

The days of you and me.

So true you were…my friend for years,

Always standing near.

What will I do when you are gone,

And we shall talk no more.

Stay with me…a little while,

Before you go away.

Let me taste the wine again,

My youth of yesterday.
