That’s a Promise

cropped-cropped-cropped-cropped-arkansas3111.jpgThe most challenging scriptures…”love your enemies…do good to those who spitefully use and abuse you…turn the other cheek…forgive those who persecute you…”

We, as Christians, would hope to measure up to these scriptures. The actions are easy to talk about, but the reality of the situation is an entirely different matter. Would our faith be strong enough? Would our willingness to follow these scriptures hold up?

Following the tragic school shooting of 10 young Amish schoolgirls in a one-room school house in October 2006, an Amish grandfather of one of the girls who was killed expressed forgiveness toward the killer, Charles Roberts. Before the sunset that same day Amish neighbors visited the Roberts family to comfort them in their sorrow and pain.***

Would we choose to forgive someone who just shot to death our daughter? Would we provide loving concern for their family before the sun set that very day? Easy to talk about, but in the reality of the situation would we truly choose to love and have compassion for the offender and his family? Would we attend the shooters funeral. It’s reported that there were more Amish than English there the day Charles Roberts was buried.

Scripture is not an option or suggestion…it is what we, as Christ followers are required to do. Easy? No. Difficult? Try impossible…but the Scriptures tell us through Christ, all things are possible. That’s a promise!

Eternal Ages

Eternal Ages, shows the pathway,

From the manger to the cross,

The price is paid,

Forgiveness.

Miracles, beyond our thinking,

Deliverance beyond our hope,

Mercy undeserved,

Salvation.

Morning light, the tomb is empty,

He is risen from the grave.

Death is conquered;

Resurrection!

Watchful eyes, alert and waiting,

For the hour, for the day.

The trumpets sounding!

Christ’s Return.
