By Faith

The following is paraphrased from the 11th chapter of Hebrews

By Faith…

Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, the prophets and those to follow…

…subdued kingdoms, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, escaped the edge of the sword, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens, quenched the violence of fire, out of weakness were made strong, worked righteousness, received their dead raised to life again…

they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth…

And for their Faith…

they were tortured, put in chains, imprisoned, scourged, mocked, stoned, sawn in two, slain with the sword, destitute, afflicted, tormented, crucified, fed to lions.

 By Faith, they obtained a good testimony…

they have set the pace;

they have set the example;

they have counted the cost for their faith.

 They had their faith…and defended that faith to the death.

 Hopefully, put to the test, we, as Christians today will do no less.

 Something to think about.

  1. I have thought hard about some of the things the early Christians went through and asked God about it in prayer because I am not all certain that I could do that. He reminded me that He chose to put me in the world as a Christian at this time and place because He has given me the ability to make a contribution where and when I am. Wile the early Christians were truly courageous and martyrs for the faith, it takes a different kind of courage to be a Christian now and that is what He put me in this time for. It was a very comforting thought.

  4. Very well put my friend! Sometimes when life throws us the most wicked curveballs, it’s easy to lose sight of our faith. Yet, we’re to stand strong in the face of adversity and cast our eyes to the Heavens in a show of faith in our God. Bravo!

  5. Loved the book “Prepare for Rain” by Michael Catt. It’s the story of all we can accomplish through faith than is regularly possible. If we live preparing (for rain), we can hope to face life’s challenges.

    So powerful! In today society it’s easy to compromise for false happiness. We need to be alert and plug into God everyday.
    Grazie again for a precious post. Ciao.

  8. I just love how you paraphrased that passage; you make it easier for every day people like me to “get’ the message. And it’s powerful.
    Thanks so much! MJ
